Another Great ~ and Safe ~ Thanksgiving Side Dish

Mashed potatoes just go so perfectly with turkey and gravy that they are a traditional fixture on the Thanksgiving table. Most of the time, though, they are prepared with a lot of cream and butter, making them a big no-no for those with allergies.

Besides, plain ol’ mashed taters are kind of boring when it comes right down to it. Just for fun, this Thanksgiving, get a little creative with the mashed potatoes and give them a great autumn twist!

All you have to do is follow this recipe for basic mashed potatoes, and add 1 cup of squash puree.

Squash puree is easy to find. You can make it yourself following this tutorial if necessary, or it can often be found in the frozen vegetables section at any grocery store. Any variety of winter squash is acceptable, but acorn or butternut are particularly good in this dish.

You can also add some crumbled dried sage for even more delicious autumn flavor.
